“ Building Construction & Materials "

Project 1.

Materials Application: Architectural and Structural - Reichstag building

To utilize it as a case study, we had to choose a famous architect and one of their buildings. Our research must include two structural material applications, five architectural material applications, and one material installation. We must explain the reasons behind the material selections, which are typically linked to the architect's concept.

The first project taught me a lot about fundamental construction, how they operate, how to use them in a crisis, also how to execute precise research accordingly. Aside from that, this helps me get into more recognition of famous architects’ buildings that I should’ve known of and the reasoning behind their design concepts and intentions.

Project 2.

Construction Detailing of Building Elements - Concrete Jungle House

We were asked in be a group of 7 people to develop a construction drawing set that contains detailing of building components on the superstructure such as windows, doors and etc based on a double-storey terrace house chosen by ourselves where we needed to follow professional drawings provided researches and we were picked to either solely create drawings based on the material provided by our instructors which was either concrete or timber.

Through this project, I’ve gained an understanding of detailed floor plans, technical construction details, and how to apply them in certain situations based on the materiality which helped improve my architectural hand drawing skills since I was assigned to the floor plans for the project. Working with people from Interior Architecture was a very fun experience as we get to utilize different aspects of our own strengths, studying in different courses. That’s when I learned how to work as a flawless teammate as we needed to teach and communicate with each other precisely without errors since any small differences could alter the entire project.
